"Not happy, very disappointed. Everything there it centered around membership triing to sell you a time share if you say no,like we did the mood of the staff and treatment became cold and downgraded. Before the membership meeting you could drink all the high end alcohol after the meeting and saying no we could only drink average grade drinks, this is one example. This sole focus there on selling you a membership became a bad taste in my mouth and damptend the mood set for a fun vacation. The ocean front we thought we would have turned into a little man-made beach gear for small children. The bathroom you see in the picture on line is not the bathroom we saw when we got there its smaller scale, the bathroom you see is the members time share bathroom."

"We just returned from our trip to Tres Rios. We had a nice time but felt pressured by management the entire time to consider this as a timeshare. We had just checked in and before allowing us to go to our room we were obligated to sit with a representative to hear about the resort and other places they are affiliated with. This was not a good way to start coming from a long travel day. The resort was nice but not the nicest we've stayed at. The beach area was eroded and you were unable to swim in the water. You were only allowed to swim at the Lagoon on the side of the resort. It was sold as an all inclusive yet a portion of the upper pool and one restaurant is closed off to kids. That was a shame - all inclusive means use of EVERYTHING. I tried to order lunch at the lower pool but was told I had to get it myself because they don't deliver pizza at the pool. I ordered it myself and upon leaving with it noticed a waiter taking several pizzas to the adult pool. That seemed quite unfair. When you ordered something from the waiters poolside sometimes it was delivered and sometimes it never showed up. Aside from the kids club that catered to young children there wasn't much for older kids to do. There was no ping pong, basketball, snack bar, night club, etc. The only pool table was in the sports bar but was closed off to kids after a certain hour. There was no snack bar, no pool bar and no ice cream bar. The food was ok but not fantastic. The portions were extremely small in the restaurants. We ordered room service one evening and were told they didn't have any chocolate cake or ice cream left so they brought us tiramisu and strawberry ice cream instead. Since when is that allowed to happen at any hotel???? The lobby was not festive at all. There is no bar, no music, no entertainment. Usually the lobby is a hub for people to go to. This one was quite dull. On the other hand the rooms are a decent size and kept clean. The rivers and cenotes were interesting to see. The employees taking people on the bike, snorkeling and kayak tours were great. We were quite impressed with the circus show. It was a nice vacation but I would not go back."

"This IS a Timeshare resort for elderly people. They will want you to sign up for anywhere from 300 grand to 10 grand(for a previously owned timeshare on their resort) Then you must pay 750.00 a week for a regular suite and another 99.00 each person for all inclusive! This is a joke as we paid 99.00 a day with all inclusive for the same room for one week! The presentation takes from 2 hours to 6! They also shuttle you to LAPIS and expect you to spend a ridiculous amount of money at the store! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING HERE AS YOU CAN GET EVERYTHING CHEAPER IN TOWN! We saw a ring there for 425.00 and in the resort store it was on 72.00! They had masks there for 300.00 but in town the same mask was 28.00! The resort mus have something with them as they send you before you ever get the chance to go out on your own to the market or even on tours!
The concierge leave little to be desired and believe me everyone looks to see if you are a member or just a guest. Members are given a better beach, premium alcohol, Mexican breakfast with omelettes made to order etc while guests are sent to eat breakfast in another restaurant without hotplates so you eat cold food! We did get the WIFI number but if you do not have a laptop do NOT use their computers as they overcharge and do NOT give change. We couldn't get our money exchanged unless we had ID and we were always directed to the bus boys for US change? The bus boys were fantastic as were the tour guides and a few waiters. The GRILL is the place to eat! Do not expect ANY activities other than kayaking, snorkeling 800 metres and a bike tour of the area with rusted out bikes and broken helmets! You cannot take the bikes out on your own or do anything without attendance really. The lights are out at 9:30 PM with no music or dancing on site at all. They do not even have music by the pool for goodness sakes?
It is a place to go to live out the last years of your life, not someplace for young thriving adults, children or even the young at heart! Staff seem to quit often as well from what we were told! We even had two staff quit while we were there and that is not a testament of a good work place!
The lights were burnt out in our washroom, the housekeeping staff left our patio unlocked on 3 separate occasions, they never brought the right order for room service, the bar was never stocked unless you called and complained 2 times a day, the towels were not replaced but instead put back up on hangers even when dirty, you are expected to leave tips and will spend a lot on them.
This place could be great, but it will require a lot of changes in order to become what it should be!"

"Terrible greeting. They are more concerned about selling their timeshare to you than your time. Before you get the key to the room, someone needs to talk to you about the property ( reality, they want to sell you a timeshare ). The food was average. Nothing like other resorts in Playa. There is no life after 8:00pm. They have something at 6:00pm but nothing to do after that. The worse is the beach. The sand is terrible and the water, let's just say that the Hudson Rivers in New York City has more blue that this beach. They are under staff so don't spect fast service. The only good thing about this place was the workers. For the money, you can go to a better place. Trust me when I say that there are better places. I take my family every year. This is our 12 year."

"Great family trip! Rooms were clean and well appointed. The food was fair at the specialty restaurants. The buffet was the best food if you stayed with the Mexican choices, in my opinion. My 3 children loved the buffet most because the selection would suit anyone looking for 'normal food'. The staff by the pool and in the restaurants were fantastic and very attentive. My wife and I loved the beach beds and the fact that you could get food and drinks while lounging on the beach. We chose to go to resort because of the many activities on the property. The kayaking was so much fun in the rivers to the cenotes. Beautiful water! We used the Hobie Cats daily. My only complaint would be that concierge was less that helpful. We lost swim goggles and sunglasses and they were never found and at check out I had to pay for a phone call that we made and they would not give change in dollars even though they exchange money right there... at a terrible exchange rate I might add. "We stayed at Hacienda Tres Rios for 7 days. Absolutely beautiful grounds and landscape! The hotel was amazing and the staff always wanting to help. The food was delicious, there are many restaurants to choose from. The Italian was my favourite - I recommend the Mayan Coffee (Such an awesome show!). Also, make sure you request your lobster and steak dinner if you are staying greater than three days. They will book it for you at a restaurant of your choice and it was delicious! The Mexican Restaurant wasn't very much to my liking. Definitely check out the stone oven pizza place by the pool.
We went snorkelling and kayaking down the one river and swimming in cenote Aguila. It was beautiful and I loved it! We did take another trip ourselves down the other river to the senotes, which they made it seem like you could kayak to all of them - you can only kayak to cenote tortuga and then walk to the other 7-8 cenotes. And the cenotes didn't appear to be well kept, I wouldn't swim in any of the other ones.
The beach was beautiful, although not the typical 'clear blue' like you expect in the carribbean. Parts of it reminded me of the waters here in Canada, however, there is nice white sand beach, lovely beach beds, and the water is clearer over the bridge next to the beach (Only 2 min walk). The catamarans were a blast!
The only real downside was that it seemed things closed too early. There isn't really any nightlife to speak of at this resort.ause we wanted a more relaxing holiday, but sometimes you want a late night and to get something to drink! It was nice for us bec The pool service closes at 6, then the bar at the pool closes from like 6-7 when it reopens for a couple hours. There is 24 hour room service though, where you can get drinks and some foods any time of night.
I had read a lot about timeshare people being a bother when you go here - if you don't book through a corporate thing or with the whole timeshare thing being part of your trip, it is a non-issue. If you book through a travel agency or site to just go for the all inclusive week, they don't bu you about time share at all. We were told about the option to go to the speech one day once we got there, but they never pushed it and told us we could let them know if we were interested. The one upside of going is they give you a free 7 course dinner with one of the chefs, or two free massages, as well as access to their sister resort Fishermans. We opted not to go to the speech though.
Lovely resort, great food, and great service!"

"Okay, here is my review. I really wanted to love this place. I am a big fan of all-inclusives and have not been to a non inclusive resort since my first visit in 2006. Pros: Room service! Breakfast in bed, or some late night food to the room was very nice. The rivers and cenotes were really cool to kayak and snorkel in. Beach beds were plentiful and we never had a day we could not get one. Cons: A lot of the staff were rude and definitely not there to please the customer. I had countless times where I was given the wrong drink at the bar by the adult pool and was given an attitude when telling the bartender it was the wrong drink. Tonic instead of seltzer, mudslides with no bailey's, martinis that were made horribly, on and on. Espresso was very difficult to get. The coffee lounge in the lobby had no one to make the coffee half the time I went there, had to wait sometimes ten minutes for one at the pool bar. I know how to use an espresso machine, but the bartender would make me wait for a server to do it, and they would take their sweet time, sometimes even walking around the corner and leaving me hanging, never coming back! Dinner buffet was horrible, although for breakfast and lunch it was good. We did a dinner at the Mexican restaurant and it took 2 hours, even though it wasn't very busy! A few more complaints - Pool bar by the beach closes at 5 pm, sports bar closes at 1 am. They said we could order late night drinks to room service, but when we tried, they would only bring beer. This means if we wanted to have a drink after 1am, we had to order room service, go to our room and wait a half hour, then bring it back downstairs. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Another time we ordered a martini from the martini bar which was way too sweet. We asked if he could do something to fix the martini, but he refused because it was 10pm and the bar closed, even though he handed it to me about thirty seconds earlier and everything to fix it was right in front of my face."

"The hotel was absolutely beautiful! They offered us free amenities to take the time share presentation, which was great, but the presentation ended up lasting 3 hours, which took quite a bit of our day. This was frustrating. Every free amenity that they offered was awesome though!!! The food was good, and the best was definitely the Italian restaurant. The grill out by the pool was great, and the drinks that were steadily brought to us was great. The grounds were really well kept. The sites on the property were beautiful. The room was excellent! We had a beautiful view of the beach, and the jacuzzi on the balcony was perfect. Staff, for the most part, was very attentive, and helped us with all of our needs. Overall, we had a wonderful time. We would definitely recommend going to this resort. We have memories that will last a lifetime!"

"This was my third trip to Mexico but the first my entire family attended. This is mainly a timeshare resort-and that is the focus. Upon arrival you are greated very warmly but are escorted to a conceiage that wants you to commit to a timeshare tour. I was very up front with this individual that we were here for vacation not a timeshare tour. From that point on she was extremely rude and not helpful. We booked tours through best day travel which provided our transportation from the airport. The representative from their agency even stated that this resort was timeshare based and was not customer oriented if you declined the timeshare. We paid $80 for a taxi to Playa del Carmen - $40 each way, but if you were a timeshare member that was complimentary. I will say we were very impressed with the both the entertainment & the restaurant staff. I would defintely not recommend this hotel unless you are looking for a timeshare as well."

"The trip was OK until we got to the hotel. The hotel room allocated was very poor. Next to aircondition room. Whole night lots of loud noises. Two of light bulbs did not work. Mini bar was empty. Room service book was missing. Next day after long conversation with the front desk manager. THey changed the room. The main campus room was lot better. Even though with the above negativity i am giving Tres Rios high marks because it is a beautiful place. Staff is bit edgy sometimes but friendly for most part. We enjoyed the access to the sea, lazy lay at the sandy beach. Evening with the outdoor hot tub soak, surrounded by the coconut and palm trees. DUring spring break the weather was perfect at 77F in the evening and 85F in the day. we enjoyed the activities by the Tres Rios which included Kayaking, Sensory tour, and bike riding, tour of sontes. To top all of it was theme buffet dinner. First night we had mexican night, the seond night we had Mayan food (which included rabbit on the outdoor fire pitt), third night we enjoyed the formal Asian food. Caution: Do not order room service unless you have to. It takes long time, understandbly. But the food choices are not great either. Best Day co needs to better serve. Staff is argumentative. We booked the tour for four. She charged for four but told subcontractor of two only. Subcontractor came to pick us up but wanted to take only two instead of all of us. use concerige staff and shop around for better rates on all services. We found $70 and $130 charged by different groups for the same service. Plan it before you go and spend time enjoying the time out there instead of looking for bargains."

"Overall simply an excellent overall experience. Every single staff person was as friendly as could be and really seemed to enjoy what they were doing. The hotel grounds and rooms are meticulosuly maintained. Food was good, the Japanese restaurant was just OK, the Italian restaurant was excellent, pizzza was good, breakfast/lunch buffet was superb Michael Jackson tribute show was fun. Poolisde service excellent. We were there for 4 days and the weather wasn't all that cooperative but would still go back in a hearbeat. Only contstructive comments: ocean view suites have a few but the ocean is off in the distance a bit so judge how important that is to you. Jacuzzi is outside the room on an open balcony, no way to screen from ground views, my guess is they want you to go in your bathing suit but being on an upper floor has it's advantages if you are discreet. Took about 1/2 an hour to fill due to hot water spigot barley running. minor comments that in no way took away from our terrific experience."

"Not my favorite place to stay. Although the kayaking and catamaran was fun, there isn't much else to do. There is no nightlife at all and everything closes early. The lights went off in the lobby at midnight while our family was still there talking. The food was ok, not the best I have tasted compared to the 5 other resorts we have stayed at. The service is great and having room service is awesome but having to go to your room for a snack to come back down is horrible. The lack of attention to activities for kids and teenagers is depressing. If you want to relax and go to bed early then come here. If you want to have fun then choose anther place and read the reviews carefully."

"First off, the resort itself is very nice and the food was very respectable! In regards to the Time Share, you will be cornered multiple times and they say it will last 90 minutes....it lasts 3-4 hours. We caved and purchased the timeshare/ travel club membership and were promised that we could cancel within 5 days. On day 3, I sent in my written request to cancel to the sales rep and the Legal Officer. They ignored the first two requests and then on the third request stated that they would assist in cancelling the membership and refunding my money. That has yet to happen and it is 22 days later! I feel like I have been scammed!! This is nothing but a nightmare and a rip off!!!! Go elsewhere!"

"This is a lovely resort set in a nature park. However, the main focus of this resort is to sell you a timeshare. When we told them we were not interested, we were not treated as well by the concierge staff. We tried to make use of the bike tours, kayaking tours etc. and really had to pursue getting reservations from them. It was frustrating and time consuming. The wait staff was very friendly and efficient and the food was relatively good. Not all the restaurants are open at all times but this was never published anywhere. That also was frustrating. One of the pools was designated for adults only but children were in there many times and no one asked them to leave. We had taken our two grandchildren, ages 10 and 13 and they had a wonderful time but we would not go back."

"Loved the facility; staff was friendliest I have had in Cancun (been there 6 different times - each time to different resort); food was excellent; eco-emphasis made the place THE place to go to. my swim up and down the pristine waters of the river - carrying me into the ocean in the midst of pelting rain - was exhilerating/thrilling. visiting cenopes - right on the property - was divine. also was able to brush up on my non-existent Spanish - with a fabulous teacher for an hour a day. and aerobics teacher was best of the Caribbean - he knew what he was doing (unlike all the other teachers at other resorts). Finally we were taken on a tour of their nursery - they are involved in re-forestation of jungle post devastating hurricane in 2005 that wiped out whole area."

"This was our first all-inclusive vacation and our first vacation in Mexico. We felt totally safe at this resort and in the area. The staff is exceptional. This is our first day back from vacation and already miss the food served at the restaurants.
The resort is well maintained and has great landscaping and beautiful pools. Would recommend visiting the concierge on the first day to find out what the resort has to offer."

"Facilities were beautiful; beach was not the greatest. Staff was confusing at times and miscommunicated several times (I speak Spanish). I asked for anything special due to our 25th anniversary; no altrnative accomodations or other offers, only if we wanted to pay extra. Very friendly and customer service oriented staff.
DO NOT USE BEST DAY travel services for transfers or tickets; they were 2 hrs. late to their appointment to validate tickets to Xcaret and Jonathan only offered excuses and was argumentative, rather than accept that a call to advise about their lateness would have solved the situation. Best day rep. did not offer any compensation for their lateness.
Hotel is one of the best in the area."
