"The resort was well worth the money. Staff friendly and helpful, resort is very clean. Food was a bit of a disappointment. Breakfast buffet great, dinner buffet not so much. The jerk hut and paradise grill open all day is good for lunch but the restaurants are very disappointing so basically everything but dinner is good. The beach was pretty but very shallow so you can't swim much, pool is nice, entertainment was not very exciting, could be better. But overall it is a wonderful resort for the price and you will have a relaxing time and feel very comfortable and accomodated."

"This resort is really good value for your money. The beaches are beautiful, but there isn't much room to swim. The hotel rooms are really nice and resemble American hotel rooms as opposed to the stripped down rooms you often get in the Caribbean. The drinks and food are both the biggest let downs of the trip. However the main buffet and the jerk chicken are good and make up for the restaurants. The cleanliness was impressive and it was a very easy trip from the airport."

"We had a fabulous 8 day stay and we were very impressed with the family atmosphere, and always something to do, paddle boats, kayaks, entertainment, drinks and food were good, and wide variety of choices. We actually felt the buffet was better than what was served in the speciality restarants. We loved the entertainment, the staff at the bars,grills, and buffet were always so kind and gracious. Highly recommend if you want to have a 3 generation get away. Something for all to enjoy. Popcorn and ice cream a special treat mid day enjoyed! Already planning a trip back with the grand kids and their parents!"

We were so surpised. everything was perfect. people were so nice. hotel was clean. Nothing fancy but thats not what we were looking for. we did Dunn River Falls and went tubing down the river. both tours were fabulous! We ate at the Italian resturant and the food was excelent. "We loved the Jamaican people and culture, with that said, we probably would not return to Montego Bay.
The rooms were clean and the property was fine for what we paid- had I paid more I would've been very disappointed.
The Good: Cheap, & Clean- food is so-so, close to the airport
The Bad:
Snorkeling is minimal at best, the drinks are watered down, and little to no night life or entertainment, we paid through the nose for bus rides everywhere we went.
We are really easy going people, but had we the opportunity to go again, we would do Negril or Ocho Rios.
The beach is nice and the staff were plenty-"

"My wife and I went on Oct.7th until Oct.11th,2012. We had a fantastic time, the staff was friendly, the service was excellent. The food was great and the entertainment was top notch. The room was clean and spacious.
Our only complaint was that the bathroom was a little small. One recommendation I would like to make, is that an overhead announcement system be installed to let guest know when their transportation has arrive for the various tours.

"Went Sept. 1 thru Sept. 5. Very kid-friendly. Daycare was great, they really knew how to take care of my daughter. She really did not want to leave the resort. beach was nice and also the island away from the mainland. It was great to see the fish in the ocean while laying in it. Jerk chicken and pork was great at Jerk Hut. The Kid's Hut was great for my daughter. Food at buffet was okay. Omelets at breakfast were great. The restaurants at the resort were good especially the Japanese restaurant. The pool and the ocean was awesome. If you a person or family that are stuck up and is all about 4 or 5 star this place is not for you. Rooms are average hotel rooms. This is a kid-friendly resort is not an immaculate resort for couples. If you want value for an all-inclusive then this is the place for you. By the way, drinks are not weak if you tell them to add more rum. We will be going back."

"My family went on Sept. 1 thru Sept 5. My 2 year daughter had an awesome time. Soon as we got off the bus to check in, she saw the ocean and pool and wanted to go swimming. As soon as we got to the room we had to get dress to go to the water. The food was good they had numerous things to eat. Every morning I had an omelette with pancakes or french toast fruit and etc. At lunch we either would go back to the buffet or go to the Jerk Hut to eat Jerk chicken and pork. They even had a place where kids could go to eat hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and ice cream. Right across from there my daughter went to the daycare they had on-site. She loved it, she actually cried a lot on our last day there to come back home. The staff took care of her like she had been at there daycare for months. At night they had different places you could go at the resort for dinner as long as you reserved it that morning. The Japanese was probably my favorite. For the price, everything was great. I definitely will go back. If you are a person that is really on 4 star 5 star establishments or don't want to be around kids, this place is not for you. If you understand all-inclusive for value then this place is for you."

"I had a great time. The room was very clean and the food was pretty good. The entertainment was very good.
The only thing I found was that they need fly catchers as the flies were a bit of a nuisance in the dining room and the bar area.
Also late at night there was nowhere to hang out...as the staff were so busy cleaning. There should be an area where guests can hang out late as they are on vacation and do not necessarily want to go to bed early.
Overall though excellent.... I would definately go again."

"I arrive to the Resort at 2 pm had to wait 3 hours for my room. I made reservation for a Jr. Suite with a king sized bed & smoking room. I got 2 beds & a non smoking room. The front desk staff was not nice. No ice in ice machine. Had no washcloth for the whole stay. No water activities, had red flag the whole stay.Tried to make reservation for Seabreeze Restuarant at 11:01am and was told it was to late to make a reservation. The only thing I like was the entertainment they had at night. It was my first and last time at this resort."

"We knew from the onset that we had chosen a 'family friendly' resort, and not a luxury location. We were promised an upgrade upon arrival since I am a platinum member with Holiday Inn. That never happened. The bath tub didn't have a plug in it. It took THREE days to get one before we could bathe our 3 year old. The island seemed to be a topless getaway for women. That was not family friendly, and quite embarrassing for my family. The breakfast omelets were outstanding! They made great pizza as well in the buffet restaurant. The food was basically the same every day. The buffet restaurant was not terrible; it was just boring. The reservation restaurants were very good. We had a good experience in all but the Japanese one. We didn't go to that one. The Jerk Hut was better than the restaurant that we tried in the Rose Hall shopping district. Their chicken was amazing good! We did enjoy the sailboats, paddle boats, and kayaks. We were disappointed in the kids area. We took our son to both movie nights. We didn't know until we arrived that it closes twice a day, so we couldn't really plan to snorkel or anything like that because we had to be back to get him. We never left him there during the day. Our experience wasn't great, but we still had fun. The tour desk next to the 'casino' was great. We did a family excursion to the Rose Hall Plantation. They took great care of us. We had a private driver who waited for us the whole day. Totally worth the $70(total). We did contact priority club to tell them about our experience...never got a response...too bad."

-Not enough activities

-Food is mostly average. The fried bammy, fried dumplings and chimichurri are fantastic. They also serve a few jamaican dishes which i think is great.
-Ice maker is almost always empty.
-Bring water shoes as there are sea urchins in the water.
-Fried fish at the bar by the pool is a must especially paired with pickapepper sauce.
-Jerk pork/chicken at the jerk hut is mediocre. a lot of beach chairs available and you can drag it into the shallow waters.
-Weak WiFi
I would still go back there because I really don't care much if the staff is friendly or not. The food is decent and the price is really good. The place is kid friendly and when I went, there were more locals than more foreigners. Also,if you decide to go to the shops across the street don't buy from the first store up front managed by the Indian people. They will rip you off. Buy from locals instead. Walk a little bit further past the Shell station and get your good from there."

"great place to stay especially if it is your first resort experience. the staff work hard and they are friendly. the rooms are clean and there is a good variety of food available. you will never have to worry about what you are going to eat. However if you do wish to try local fruit and foods such as pattie or roti, you will have to get off of the resort, there is a small fruit selection, a lot of which is North American.
One issue that I did have however was how late the music played at night and how early it began. This only bothered me because my room was close to the main stage so I was unable to sleep in in the mornings."

"I've been to Holiday Inn once b4 in 2010 and I enjoyed my stay there. However from checking - in this time it was awful. Staff never smiled, and were extremely slow. A big croaking lizard was in my room. Staff members often argued in front of guests and were very stingy in their servings at the jerk hut, as if u were begging for what u already paid for. There was a major lack in variety, you could practically predict what was going to be served. It was really disappointing."

Love the dinner beach party for the entire hotel. seriously children, teen friendly. ignore all comments about rude staff. The staff are all awesome PEOPLE and employees. Loved the layout of the buffet area that is theater style and provides easy viewing of the entertainment stage so every dinner is a dinner and theatre.This alone people is worth your money. "We paid for 5 nights, stayed for 1 and left. The front desk clerk thanked me for staying and stated they would not charge me extra for leaving early. I suppose that was their prepared phrase for saying no refunds.
The food around the pool/beach areas was awful. There were dirty plates everywhere and food was ground into the cement around the main pool. Drinks were provided in small 6 or 8oz. cups like those found at hotel continental breakfasts. The buffet restaurant overlooking the pool area was nice. The food was good but, if you ignore this review and go anyway, absolutely do not eat the scrambled eggs. Ever. Our door wouldnt lock correctly. Our view was that of a burned out portable building and shanty-town style work area. A grinder was running constantly. The elevator broke down shortly after we checked in and was still not working when we left the next day. The shower by the pool was broken. If people swim in the ocean and then wanted to get in the pool, they had to walk a few hundred feet to use another shower.
The beach is very nice. At least those pictures were accurate.
. Do not choose the resort based on what you have come to expect from the brand. You will definitely be disappointed. But, at least they won't charge you extra if you check out early.

"I went with my mother and my daughter for a girls only getaway and we had the best time at this resort. We were well taken care of and the staff was super friendly and nice. In some cases they went out of their way to help my mom with a particular activity she was looking to do. The food was great everyday and the drinks were not as weak as I thought they would be. The entertainment each night was the best. Our room was clean and our cleaning lady was soo great to us. All of us agreed that Sunspree would def be a place to go back to. I highly recomend this place for anyone who is looking for a family getaway. The beach was the best, and I loved that they had their own island. There was much to do, and we were never bored. One employee in the Jamaica airport was rude, but other than that everyone was friendly. When going shopping in the city AVOID the craft markets. "Overall, positive experience in family (2 adults / 3 kids). Family resort by excellence. Even teens had a good time.
Very clean in general (rooms, hotel, restaurants, beach, swimming pool...). Friendly staff, helpful but too busy sometimes, causing delays to get tables ready, food or drinks but generally very acceptable (we were on vacation, no?).
Food was good, fresh and various. Grill outside was appreciated by kids especially together with pop-corn and ice creams (just eat them fast as they melt very rapidly). Restaurants à la carte in the evenings were very good too with a special note to the Japanese for its originality.
Activities during the day were fine but evening ones were generally great. We stayed 10 days and even though themes were redundant, music bands, singers, dancers were different each time.
Everything is central, no need to search anything. If you need calm, some of the beaches here are far enough to forget about the music or kids and the omnipresent wind sends you to sleep in the long chairs.
No extraordinary night life so you can sleep. Shuttles are free for night birds and bring you to nice party places!
Now, a few cons :
The room was not what we expected for a Junior suite. We were 5 and only 2 double bed in the suite. In fact, the suite is the biggest unit in the hotel and it,s only for 4, not 5.....no partially separated living room area with standard sleeper sofa (as written in the room description) so we had to ask for an extra single bed.
For those who, like me, like to swim a lot in the ocean, forget about this idea unless you cross the limits set very close to the beach and discover by yourself fishes, corals, encounter rays etc.... It's true that the coral is near but still...
Same thing for kayaking and for the same reasons but no way of bypassing limits this time so no real interest.
Catamaran activity is very limited too, just a few minutes out and back to the beach...too bad...
We also booked activities (you have a lot to see there) and we found the prices very high especially if you add the inescapable after-extras strongly suggested and promoted each time. Also book directly from the hotel as we felt that activities booked directly from Bookit weren't as well organized as local ones. One was cancelled due to not enough participants but we immediately found the same activity at the same time but for cheaper at the hotel from their provider....strange...
So, if you don't have too high expectations and look for a clean, friendly and family resort with various activities, this is the place.
Everything is IRIE there and there is NO PROBLEM in Jamaica...YAH MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"I would definitely rate this hotel as a 3-star property. It was fully booked when we were there and very crowded. Busy is good except when you regularly have difficulty finding a table to sit at in the buffet restaurant as well as finding cutlery to eat with. Service varied greatly depending where you were. Staff at the front desk were not very friendly and basically handed you a key and an info card and there you were. Check-in seemed long-you really do not want to wait 30 minutes instead of starting your vacation. On the bright side, we were given an upgrade to a one-bedroom suite...with a separate bedroom area, and huge bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. We never waited longer than 5 minutes for a drink at he bar and the bartenders were friendly. They did not have enough staff at the buffet and so getting cutlery or a drink was not easy....easier to walk over to the lobby bar and get our own drink. The buffet itself was disappointing as It seemed to be the same thing over and over. I would recommend the made to order omelettes at breakfast, the made to order pasta at lunch or supper. Other than that it was just okay. For lunch the grill had good hamburgers, etc and the jerk chicken were better bets. I would highly recommend the Italian restaurant. It was the best food and service we had the whole week! Unfortunately you can only go there once.
The pool and ocean were great for swimming with small children. We were in building 5 which was a great spot - only a 5 minute walk to the pool and about 1 minute to the ocean. We never had a problem finding a beach chair. The private island was small but fun to visit. We booked a free photo session. The photographer was very professional and the pictures were reasonable to purchase.
Overall we enjoyed ourselves. We probably would not go back to Jamaica only because there are so many other places we would like to visit."

"The service at this property was not great. Too many flies were around the food. In addition, when you sat at the table to eat, no kniives and forks were at some of the tables. We paid for a Junior suite with an ocean view for five people. We were given a room with two twin beds with partial ocean view, and one additional bed had to be requested. The room was not what we expected for a Junior suite. Also, a very toxic smell was inside the elevators. My son and his cousin were trapped in the elevator, because the power went off at the property. We will not be staying at this property again.."

"The only trouble we had with our stay at Holiday Inn was the Check-in. It was a nightmare. We arrived at 2:00pm got our wristbands and were told the room wasn't ready yet come back around 3pm. So they stored our bags and we went to look around a bit, but didn't want to do much because we were exhausted from our trip being up at 6:30 am and all. Came back to the line to pick up keys and 1 person is waiting on a line of 10 or more people. Talking with people in line, one said she was there at noon and had requested early check-in and was still waiting for her room. Finally around 5 or 5:30 we were able to check into our room. The room was great, our building was #6 which was close to the Adult beach and pool. I opened the door to our balcony and we were right on the ocean just had to roll out of bed and go down to my chair right there outside my room, it was wonderful. Buffet had good choices of food everyday. I would recommend this resort, and hope you have a better check-in experience"

My only gripe is the concierge desk. "My best friend & I just got back last night from our 7 day stay & we wish we had stayed longer! THIS RESORT IS EXCELLENT! The nightly entertainment is great not to mention amusing. The staff is extremely friendly. The restaurants are good, but make sure you make your reservations early in the morning for each restaurant! Dinner at the buffet is okay, needs some improvement, but lunch & breakfast are good. Free wifi was such an advantage. The bathrooms in the rooms are some what small and the water pressure of the shower sucked, but the room and view itself was amazing.

"We just returned from a 7 day family trip for 18 people. The hotel was okay. The hotel ratings in the US are not the same as in Jamaica, so I'd say it is like a nice Super 8 motel. No extras in the room, just a basic room with beds, desk, dresser and flatscreen TV. It is not like a Holiday Inn in the states. No food is allowed in the rooms, either and there is no fridge in most room types. They don't use fitted sheets on the beds. Most of the staff is friendly, although some were just rude to tourists. Tub had cold water 6 of the 7 days. Tub was also dirty. A/C is only in the guest rooms, so be prepared to sweat. Don't buy anything from the gift shops. They are severely overpriced. I mean $15US for a cup or kid's swimming vest...Go across the street from the hotel to the shops and negotiate your prices, starting at half of what they state. Stay firm. They will negotiate with you. The Japanese restuarant, Kenko's, was my favorite. Very entertaining and kind staff. The buffet is okay. Same foods with different renditions everyday. It is outside, so bugs are everywhere and the birds will eat whatever they can. Don't eat the fruit. They leave it open and the birds have a field day. My brother and sister got food poisoning. The nurse station is not very helpful, besides providing Pepto and bandaids and even management had a hard time finding the nurse at times. However, the Kids Club is fabulous and so is the Nanny Service. You will feel nothing but comfort, leaving your children with them and this comes from a protective mother who doesn't put up with bad childcare. They have off-site clubs, but as we noticed this is for the young 20's, so you may feel out of place. Not many teen activities onsite, at night, besides Karaoke. They do have daily activities and plenty of water sports. If you have any type of medical condition, regardless of how small it seems, before attempting scuba diving, be sure to get a note from your doctor or you may be disappointed."

While I did sense that the humidity in this room and the overall smell was worse than in the second room that we had, it was not until the 6th day of our stay that I figured out what happened. I informed the front desk about it and we were given a new room for our last night at the resort. However, no other compensation was offered. The room number with the mold issue is 5313.

"Just came back from my week long trip from Jamaica in the month of June. Overall the trip was excellent. I read a lot of the reviews on the resort from bookit and other sites before I decided on booking here at Holiday Inn and I'm glad that I made the decision to.nnFirst, for the price you get what you paid for so don't expect a five star resort but there were some very good upsides to this resort other than the price itself. The four restaurants were amazing. Food was the best and service at all four were very speedy. You do need to make reservations for each the day before but it wasn't difficult at all in getting them, yes if you go later in the day to make a reservation it will be a later dinner like 8pm but you will still get in. Later in the day for example was 2 in the afternoon. Buffet was average food wise but that's were the price comes in but its still good food.nnSecond, service was amazing no matter where you went. The staff was super friendly and seemed happy all the time. The resort is pretty big but not much night life for young people. Rooms were a large size and clean so they were perfect.nnTips:n*Don't exchange American money for Jamaican money because everything is priced in American dollars. Do come with some smaller bills 5,1s. They do take Jamaican money but nothing is priced under it so unless you like doing math all time just take American dollars. nn*If taking tours ect bring tip money (singles) because everyone asks for one. many of the tours are about and 1 hr and 30 away from actual resort so be prepared for that.nn****Beach is only about knee height so dont expect to be swimming much in the ocean other than sitting around in it. Pool however is large and there are two; an adult pool and main pool"

"The check in process really does need improvement but how many times do you check in when you are there? There is entertainment throughout the day and always at night. Port Royal has a great singer after 10.30pm and is air conditioned. Building 1 is close to everything and right by the pool yet I didn't hear the noise you would expect. There are plenty of seats and I never had a problem finding a spot on any of the 5 beaches or around either of the 2 pools. The snack bar is great during the day and not far away is the jerk hut, also great. It is good for families but also just adults as we were. Would definitely go back. "

"The price we paid was excellent. But, I would recommend booking your excursions at the hotel vs online. They cancelled our tour and we had to wait 20 days before we got our refund. I feel they cancelled because they didn't have enough people scheduled for the trip. The staff was somewhat rude, like they didn't want to be bothered. The rooms were dated, had a musty smell. Our toliet leaked water and everyday we called the front desk and even brought it to the attention to housekeeping, they never addressed it. The resort outside was very nice. The food was ok, my suggestion is to get your food from the chef vs the buffet. The drinks are watered down so ask for double shots. The shopping tour the hotel provided for $15.00 was worth the scenic tour, but not worth the shopping. I advise to go accross the street to get the same shopping exprience. Overall, for the price we paid, it was worth it. "

"We had a great time even though I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
The hotel room was below quality (when compared to other Holiday Inn properties I have visited), we had to go back to the front desk several times before getting a proper room the next day. That took away half a days worth of quality time.
Food at the buffet was okay though the specialty restaurants gave us a good island experience.
On the positive side, every hotel staff, except one, was courteous. Each and every show at the main stage was high quality and entertaining. The view from the window was amazing.
The free trip to Margaritaville was a complete waste. Wish had known and utilized the time differently. Shopping outside the hotel was easy and fun, gave us opportunity to interact with the locals in a non-hotel set-up.
I may come back to Jamaica, since there are more things to explore and the food, culture and warmth of people is something to cherish but will not return to holiday inn sunspree."

The food was great, at times a little hot for my taste but delicious. Entertainment was fun. We would've loved top have later shuttle service from entertainment center ie margaritaville and pier 1, local bars. And have an after hours place for guest to mingle for a little while."

The only thing I would say was not so great was that they couldnt serve us lobster due to some laws and we were kind of set on having a lot of seafood. But we had plenty of fish to compensate. "I was in contact with the Guest Relations at the hotel. I explained to them that I had read some bad reviews and was concerned about the rooms, the reservations for the restaurants, accomidations and the overall experience since there were 14 of us. I was asured that all would be well. Believe that and I have a bridge I want to sell you. I specifically requested that the other guests be near me and that we be in either building 6 or 7 which are adult buildings. They got stuck in building 4 facing the children's playground. We asked for them to be moved and were told that no other rooms with king size beds were available in either building and that no requests were quaranteed.All 14 of us requested non smoking rooms. The smell of smoke was so strong in several of the rooms that we purchased room freshener to try to help. Of course it did not. The food was below average at the buffet. On day my brother in law, who is diabetic, could only find salad and fruit that was fit to eat. Most everything was loaded with spices that had lots of salt in it. My and my roommate's feet were swollen for two days for the excess salt. The reservation thing was a joke. How are you suppose to know how many people will want to eat at a certain place or time the morning of the day before. Yes. If you want to eat on Friday night, you have to make the reservation Thursday morning and I mean morning. Better make the reservation by nine am or forget it. The beach was nothing that I thought it would be.It was mostly rocky and you could only go out about 60 feet from the beach. The rest was roped off. The main pool was closed for two days. The putt putt golf was under water. I could go on but I think I have made my point. We all have decided that the next vacation will not be here."

"Staff should not only read these reviews, but have incentives tied to their performance. Besides the horrible check in system, for whatever reason, the hotel seems to have some out-dated check in system. The attendant simple stared at the computer for minutes doing nothing. "Well where to start.. this is our 2nd time at the resort, and the saying 'fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me' is all i have to say ! The rooms were very dirty, that was even after we upgraded from a standard room to partial ocean view. My moms room was clean but ours was not. Things wee very inconsistent. The food was HORRID!!!!! Even at the restaurants it was bad, all they do is rotate the food to the different restaurants. Now I know this is not a 5 star hotel but they could step it up a notch. The grounds were beautiful and clean and the staff were friendly, but that isnt enough in my eyes. I am not a picky person nor a snob but I just think that if people are spending their hard earned money they should at least be able to eat something while they are there. It was tough because we were traveling with our son who is 1 yrs old and I am 5 months pregnant, so to find some edible food was tough! The jerk hut was decent and you can always eat the breakfast but lunch and dinner was a mess ! Next time we will be staying somewhere else ! I hope this is helpful :)"

"I compared this to the one in Aruba and found out they are two totally different worlds apart....NO COMPARISON whatsoever. The staff (the majority) needs to have an 'attitude adjustment', I felt that when you asked for help or had a questions, most of the time, you were bothering them. They did not put us in the right room until Sunday, the room we PAID for, so we had to waste some hours moving from room to room, the Adult swimming pool was filthy! You could not see your feel in this maybe 3Ft pool, not to mention, there are no bathrooms near it....know what I mean? Hence, NEVER went back to it. The food choices were extremely limited, I mean EXTREMELY!. The room we had for the duration of the vacation was room # 1224, Ocean & Pool view, was a nice room but the bathroom EXTREMELY small, the shower had no place to put the soap, no holders anywhere, shampoos and such on the floor (YUCK).....I did not understand why our rooms that we booked back in February, were NOT reserved for us when we arrived? VERY POOR Customer relations there. The beach/pool lounges are out dated, majority of them need to be replaced. They need to have refrigerators in the room, every room, we requested one and they sent one up that I would not put anything in, was so dirty and should of been thrown away years ago. On an up-side, the entertainment was fabulous.....I would not return here ever again......Looking to go to ARUBA H.I. in November."

"Well travelers all around the place was good. Although they over booked our hotel by 40 rooms. As we got there at 8:30pm. the four of us were tired, hungary, and wanted to rest in our hotel. We walked in full of smiles, gave the guy at the front desk our paper work, and he walked away. Ten minutes of waiting a manger came up and said this is what we are gonna do! We are sending you to a different hotel for the night then picking you up at noon. Not any I'm sorry or any apology. Boy were we mad and upsent. Go see this person (that has been let go) and she will compensate you for your troubles. Well that didnt happen, I paid for a up graded room and got a standard even though they said they would up grade us even more. What a mess. All they did was leave us in a standered room and get us reservations at one of there resturants that was free, not the one we even asked for. Good Luck"

"1 get to hotel then b ignored..finally being told we have to wait for management 2-being told we r overbooked and sending you to a different hotel for the night and not picking you up till noon the next day NO SORRY WE MADE A MISTAKE NOTHING this is just is how it goes...Then at next hotel finding out you are four of 40 people shipped there 3-finally getting back to hotel being told we will make up for all of this for starters we are going to upgrade your room from the superior up 4 spots but won't have it ready till 1:30 so we head to the adult pool 4 -finally a room...we get there dissapointed its a standard room so instead of the upgrade we got down graded from what we paid for..back to front desk but first I check with guest services to make sure what kind of room 7424 is yep confirmed a standard room front desk..got yelled at by a superviser lady to get our stuff packed up again so they can try to find a room 5-called front desk asked for manager tell him all about our first two days and get lied too that this is an upgraded room (SORRY NICE TRY ALREADY CONFIRMED ITS NOT BY GUEST SERVICES) 6-New manager OK first we are giving you reservations to our seafood rest. Sorry I am allergic to seafood how about the Italian one OK I will see what i can do..but it is still a FREE meal already I want something done for all the LIES FROM ALL YOUR MANAGEMENT AND THE DOWNGRADE OF THE ROOM THAT I PAID EXTRA FOR¡!!!!! 7-WELL we got a reservation slipped under our door for the Jamaica rest. Not even the one we wanted and NOTHING ELSE 8- FINALLY TIRED OF WAITING SO JUST TRIED TO MAKE THE BEST OF OUR TRIP 9- NOTHING AT THIS HOTEL FOR ADULTS ALL ABOUT KIDS...NOT ONE THING GOING ON AT ADULT POOL, NO BINGO FOR ADULTS WATER AROBICS AT THE ADULT POOL WOULD B NICE OR AT LEAST SOME KIND OF GAMES OR S O M E T H I N G FOR THE ADULTS WOULD BE NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 Food was good and staff for the most part was friendly 11- just poor management!!!!"

"Weather in Jaimaca earns an 8 right out of the gate. The comments for the remainder of the trip are as follows: 1)beach space was abundant but getting a reserved chair was nearly impossible, even getting up at 5am wouldn't guarantee it. 2) cafeteria food was ok but certainly not worth the cost 3) restaurants were impossible to get into, lines every morning starting at 6am 50 deep and no guarantee; service people would laugh at you. 4) wife broke her arm on unguarded rampway; that was only way we got in the restaurants (they were quick to help attend to the injury) 5) bathroom very small and had an odor to it 6) found a live crab in our room one night 7) cable didnt work one night 8) drinks were extremely weak; essentially was drinking water all week. 9) Italian restaurant was very good, as was jamaican.....seafood not so much....good seafood entrees cost extra $20 per dish 10) not a lot for tweens to do; bball, golf were rundown 11) snorkeling was good 12) Some staff were very nice; most very quiet; some almost rude 13) one excursion to black river was ok but over priced 14) Had to buy large cups for the weak drinks as 8oz cups wouldn't cut it 15) dress code for restaurants requires additional attire not in most carribean suitcases 16) restaurants were usually only partially full; scam 17) Pool was overly crowded most of th week; kids didn't go in it at all. Overall, for an all inclusive we definitely did not get our money's worth. Talking to or overhearing others talk about the place, that was the definite consensus. Heard others say they'd been there before but that something had changed. No one said that they would be coming back. What a shame! I came to relax in a chair, have some cocktails, and enjoy the pool. Instead I had to fight for a chair at 5am, never even caught a 'buzz', and never went in the pool. On scale of 1 to 10, with weather earning an 8, we rate it a 4."

"Resort was great for families and if my husband and I had not stayed at any other all-inclusive (in Cancun and Punta Cana) we probably would have been completely satisfied. Hotel pictures and some of the information is misleading. There is no water park on the resort for the kids (there's a waterfall in the pool). The pool is much smaller than it is presented. Food was ok. The recommendations about bringing a cup were right on (otherwise you pay $15 to buy one in the gift shop - which is what we ended up doing). You cannot charge items in any of the shops/spa/casino/etc to your room because everything is independently operated. This was a bit of an annoyance because one of the things we liked about previous resorts is you put your wallet in the safe when you arrive and do not need it again until you leave - not so with this one. The arm bands you are forced to wear are a bother as well - and they will charge you if you lose them. Our kids had fun though (there were ALOT of kids) so that is really all that mattered. We'll pay a little bit more and stay at a nicer one next time."

"If this is the remodeled hotel, I hate to have booked this hotel prior. Despite the trip advisor reviews, here my list of complaints. Room 1) room not as advertised. Junior suite is just 4 feet longer than regular suite 2) bathroom has constant foul odor 3) can't fit more than one person in bathroom at a time 4) cold water most of the time 5) terrible cable reception 6) a/c leaks and patio door doesn't close properly (mind you another friend of ours had switch rooms because of the same issues but no improvement in new room) Restaurants 1) if you woke up at 6:30 am each moring to book a dinner reservation at their 3 so so food restaurants, you still have a 50/50 chance of being denied as 'reservation full' 2) Italian nice, the rest the general cafeteria was better 3) out of 7 nights, we could only book 1 restaurant 24 hours in advance, which you had to wake up at 630am to reserve- everyday. We had to eat at the main cafeteria 4 dinners out a 7 night stay. They don't let you go to a restaurant 2x eventhough the restaurants always looked half full to us 4) some food servers were good but most uninterested. Guest services 1) never met such a rude and uninterested attendant at that post- and I saw her every day to book restaurants or tours 2) we spoke to operations manager and then general manager but it seemed the higher up we went, the less they cared. Positives - great for kids, felt safe, nice pool and beach front - Jamaica itself was great, try outside restaurants like mystic India - skip anything labels safari"

"Most people are right on this one in that 'you get what you pay for'. It was a good value for what we paid and we knew going in pretty much what to expect. The food was actually worse than I thought...even at the ala-cart restaurants. We arrived at 10:30am and didn't care that our room wasn't ready until 4pm. They have a changing room and you get to eat, drink and enjoy all the facilities, so who cares. Beach is awesome - great snorkeling! My kids are 6 and 7 and loved it as the fish ate bread from their hands and the water was only waste deep. We paid for the 1BR suite and are so glad we did. The other rooms (Junior Suite is a joke) are so, so small...would not have wanted to spend a week in there w/ my kids. The staff was very friendly. I won't return (noit because it was that horrible) but b/c there are so many better islands in the caribbean besides Jamaica in my opinion. If you decide on this reort, you will have fun, but seriously won't like the food."

"Just got back from here last week. Weather was beautiful every day. Positives: beautiful beach, nice and close to the airport and town, ziplining 20-45 minutes away depending which tour you take, live entertainment was excellent (steel drums, dancers, etc), used the fitness room every day and that was a bonus, drinks are plenty full of alcohol (I watched them make mine), if you don't agree just ask for more as they will accommodate Negatives: you really do have to get up at 6:30 am to get dinner reservations (they are worth it) and lounge chairs (they get reserved early), they only allow one dinner reservation per day and you can only go to each restaurant once so make sure you understand when each is closed and choose carefully, most rooms don't seem to be ready at 3 pm so come prepared with clothes to change into If you have to (or choose to) eat at the buffet, try to sit in the open area closest to the pool. You get waited on here versus the other areas plus you can see the stage. Overall this was a good option with two teenagers."

"It was Spring Break and entertainment really sucks...There was nothing for the mature crowd after 10.30p.m. That really stinks...Food was salty and my, Gosh! fish almost everyday? Staff in main restaurant was excellent. very attentive, quick and I believe overworked. Only one day off? They too have families!!!! Here they are catering to other families and their own, well???????left on their own. :-( . Front desk staff could be a lot friendlier and smile a bit more. That is the country of smiling people but somehow the front desk staff forgets that. They also need more staff at the front desk during peek hours. The staff at the guest/reservation/tour counter really, really, really need another person during peak times. A separate person should handle tours etc and someone else make the reservations for the restaurants. Lines are too long!!!!!!"

"The weather was beautiful in Jamaica and the beach and pool accomodations were wonderful at the SunSpree Resort! We knew in advance that the hotel wasn't rated 5-star and we were okay with that. The rooms were so-so, however they were clean. The bathroom in our room was small, but for the time we spent in the room it really didn't matter. We noticed that the hallways didn't seem to get cleaned as much as they should have (floors washed good), but everything else was top notch. The first couple of days there was culture shock with the food, as the seasonings were different than what we are used to. However, there are numerous options so there should be something every day you will be pleased with. At times, I was delightfully surprised. The restaurant reservation process at the hotel restaurants wasn't the best - they open reservations at 7 a.m. the day before and we were told when we checked in that we can make reservations throughout the day for the following day's seating. However, we went to make reservations around 11 a.m. one day and in the afternoon on another and both times we were rejected - told that all reservations were taken up for the following day. We asked to be placed on a cancellation list and they had none. One night we were told they only had reservation avail. at 6 p.m., which we gladly took. But when it came time to leave after we were done eating (around 7 p.m.) half the tables were empty - which would have been a better time for us. They also provide as part of their 'all inclusive' all beverages from their bars - including water, pop and local liquors. However, the drinks were much different than what we are used to in the U.S., so be open to trying different kinds. Their beer is great. Their liquors are different tasting and you might not like the taste of what they make for you. Their drinking age in Jamaica is much younger than ours in the U.S. and there was a lot of 18-20 year olds drinking and partying pretty hard. This is a family resort and it was pretty well laid out to keep the little kids and the older kids/adults separated, but found there were many evenings while we were sleeping some of the party-goers were yelling and pounding on their room doors for their friends to let them into their rooms (must not have had a key to get in?). This happened 3 out of 7 nights we were there around 1 to 3 a.m. We liked the fact there is a Nurses Station available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for people/kids who might be sick or need attention, and there was no cost for that service (unless a doctor was needed). Would have liked to have more tour options available right from the hotel as most people don't rent a vehicle when they are in Jamaica and want to do more than just stay at the beach (however, that was quite fun for most of the days). The people who worked the hotel were very friendly and wanted to make their guest's happy. The craft stores and shops we visited - the workers were either helpful or overeager to help us with our purchases, but when you get more into the primative craft shops (shacks), be prepared because they beg and pressure you to buy something and guilt you if you don't. After about a half hour we figured out to just say 'no' that we weren't interested - but it was uncomfortable up to the point of learning what to say and how to respond when they surprised us with their pressured ways letting them know we were seriously not interested in what they were selling. When the bus pulled up to the 'craft shops', the ladies and children started to swarm the visitors as they got off the bus - pulling them to their shops. These shopping tours were organized through the resort, so I figured it was good to warn you to be prepared for this, however it was worth doing though. No room service is available at this hotel which wasn't a big deal to us. You have to claim your beach chair(s) by using the towel(s) they provide you by 7 a.m. each morning - otherwise you might not get a chair by the beach. There isn't really any other way to make it fair for guests, but I felt it wasn't fair that some people save a spot and might not even visit the reserved chairs until later in the day or not at all. Sunscreen at the hotel was $17 a bottle and it was in great demand as we had sunny days every day we were there - sunscreen was hard to come by, so make sure you bring plenty with you. Go for the lotion kind as the spray aerosol kind is used up quickly when the wind blows. Make sure to wear flip flops or sandals when you can so you don't burn or hurt your feet on the boardwalk or other areas that might not be comfortable to your feet - it does get hot in the sunshine. Evening entertainment was wonderful - something for everyone and they have cable/dish tv - so you can go back to your room and watch a moving and relax after a long day at the beach. Would consider going again. However, would plan my days better the next time as we know more about the surroundings and what is available in that location for next time."

"Overall, a great place to stay offering very good value. The common areas of the hotel are very well maintained and up to date. VERY clean throughout. Our room had a little wear and tear...the bathroom door was warped and did not close all the way. Both the front door and the balcony door stuck when opening and the bath tub drain plug did not work..2 out of the 3 washing machines in building 5 were out of order... Food is certainly plentiful....the breakfast buffet was excellent as were the specialty seafood and Italian restourant. We found some of the items for lunch and dinner buffets were a little overcooked and dried out but you could always find something that was OK We booked 2 day trips for zip lining and swimming with the dolphins thru the Jamaica Tours office on site....they are efficient and I thought very fairly priced. The gift shop is very pricey for staple items such as sun block and paper back books ($22 US for a $7.99 paperback) stockup before you leave home! We thought that overall the staff are good and almost all friendly...the bar tenders do a great job of keeping up with the forever demanding patrons! Great spot for hanging out is the Island...go early to reserve your spot! Overall, we were happy with our experience and would certainly return!"

"we had a great time, the tours were well managed. food was very good all the time. the staff was always ready to help. weather was super nice. had a somwhat bad experance, one night when a fire broke out. then again the staff and security were right on the job!!. everyone in that section wer moved to the lobby. we were very well cared for.at no time did we feel afraid or uncomfortable. but do add we were tried, as well as the whole staff. all in all we had a wonderful vac, also if anyone does not have fun, it only up to them."

"We stayed here Feb 16-23 2012. Traveled with my husband, our 2 daughters and another family of 4. All of the children are girls ages 11-14. Positive: We loved the layout of the resort. Pool area/beach was wonderful. Everything was close. The weather was perfect. The food was fine at the buffet. Always could get pasta or pizza if you didn't like the other choices. And, there was a grill open 12-6 by the pool with fries/burgers/dogs, etc. There was nightly entertainment right at the pool which was better than I expected. The onsite stores have everything you might need. The boutique has good prices for tshirts/hats/etc. Also, it felt safe. Our daughters had the run of the place and we all felt comfortable. There are lots of families/children everywhere. Negative: On Friday night of our stay the hotel had a fire. We spent the night in the lobby. It was a scary experience. The hotel was slow to respond but in the end did a good job getting us blankets/towels/water. We were allowed back into our rooms at 4:30am. For the rest of the day we had no power in our rooms. And, the the rest of the week we had power outages. (which meant no AC!). We also did not have Hot water for the rest of the week. Our building was running off of a generator. The cable tv was sketchy too. The hotel did not offer us any compensation for our inconvenience. We lost of whole day of vacationing due to the fire. Also, lines at the bars were very long. They do not have enough bartenders. The staff was not as friendly as I expected...especially the bartenders. Cleaning staff was most friendly. We only had a standard room, which was tight. Bathrooms are super small. Also it was noisy at night - bring ear plugs. Overall, it is a nice resort that needs some updating. Our family did enjoy the trip. We did one excursion on a catamaran to Magaritaville which was a great day. We knew it was a lower-end resort, so we weren't suprised by the fact that the rooms were 'updated' but we expected better service from the staff."

"My sons (10 and 12) and I stayed during Feb. vacation week. We loved the layout of the resort and the boys loved the pool and game room areas while I enjoyed the beach. Rooms and food are decent. Nightly outdoor entertainment was enjoyable but should end at 11pm. Two nights the entertainment lasted until 1:30 am and it was impossible to sleep through the noise. This is definitely a good value resort for those traveling with kids. Would not go as a couple even though there are separate adult-only areas. Staff were friendly. The White Witch Zipline experience is 10 minutes away and is well worth the price...very thrilling, kids loved it!"

"We stayed at the Holiday In SunSpree for 7 nights around Christmas. While not fancy, the hotel was clean. The staff was very helpful--from check in, housekeeping to lifeguards. The food was nothing spectacular, but there were lots of options and no reason to be hungry. The hotel had lots of activities to try to entertain people but we choose not to take part. Our goal was to rest and relax while having things for our kids (ages 9-16) to do and the hotel fit the bill. My biggest complaint was that all of the guests with children were congregated in one building which was closest to the pool (nice) which also hosts the nightly events (not so nice). The music was very loud and would go until 11-11:30 nightly. I am not sure how families with very young children handled this. The option was to be asleep by 8 and hope to sleep through the music or go to bed after the shows which were every night except one. The mattresses were very hard. Over all, the hotel was fine, but not spectacular. I would recommend it as a good value for cost conscious families."

The beach is fantastic there is a little island in the middle off the ocean that people walk to it is a very adventurous place! "We stayed from Nov 15th-18th and had a great time. The weather was perfect, the beaches are beautiful and there were plenty of lounge chairs to choose from. The Jerk Hut was a favorite spot and the swim up bar was always a fun time. The food was good, plenty to eat all day and a variety of restaurants to pick from. I recommend the snorkeling; I saw tiger fish and crabs along with some things I've never seen before. Staff was friendly and the room was very clean, definitely worth the money!"

"This was my second trip to this resort. I went last year and had such a good time that me and my girlfriend went back this year. This year was a total dissapointment. Last year I booked the Ocean View Dekuxe room which I thought was the best room they had. When we arrived our room had a living room, Jacuzzi, etc... We enjoyed the room so I booked the same room this year. When we arrived I instantly noticed that this room wasn't even half the size of the room we booked last year. When I went to the front desk to inquire about the room I was told that last year i was automatically upgraded to a Suite without any notice. We were pissed. I went to the front desk and told them that no one told us last year that we were upgraded to a suite and this was very misleading becuase the room was one of the main reasons we returned to this resort. If I knew that the room we had last year was a suite I would've booked it again. The front desk rep told me that there was nothing she could do because there was no suites available and if it was it would be an additional $110 a night(We were there for 8 nights!). Our room had no hot water the entire stay and the tv would go in and out. Besides the room some of the staff was very unprofessional and kept trying to hit on my girlfriend everytime she would leave the room alone."

"I can't believe this was rated higher - it was awful! The food was less than cafeteria food, the drinks were limited. Made with kool-aid or punches, not juices. I got sick from the drinks, and ended up not drinking the whole 3 days. Flies, flies, flies were everywhere all over the food! What ocean? It was a man-made area with a small island. The photos are not true. Good thing we only had 3 days, because I think we would have gone somewhere else had we booked longer!! The best thing about this hotel was the bed. The guest service desk. were extrememly rude!!!!!!! The wait staff was very pleasant. It's a total party place!!!!!!!!!!"

"I have stayed with my husband and two daughters from 29-March until 3th of April, 2012 with our friends (another family of four). Resort has nice layout, we have liked the beach and private island, despite the fact that water is shallow with very limited possibilities to swim (I have found one short strech that could be used and used it frequently). Entertainment is also very nice in the evening. Live music was always good, some of the interactive shows somewhat boring as they turned to be very similar from one day to another. If you are bothered by the noise, ask for rooms away from thr main entertainment area. Rooms are small and not very new. AC is noicy, TV may have issues with picture quality. No food in rooms. Hotel does not offer bottle of watter in the room so you will have to buy some for your self. Stores are well equiped but some prices are way too high (sun screen or similar, just make sure not to run out of these). Was looking forward to experiance for ourselves Jamaican friendlines. This resort did cut it short for some reason. Some of the stuff very friendly, some of the stuff almost rude. Food did not meet expectations. Luckily Pizza, Pasta, fruits and vegies help it through. We can only compare it to Mexico and experiancing similar price range resort in Mexico, I would choose Mexico any day, especially in the area of service, friendliness and food / drinks quality. Nevertheless, this may be a good option for families with kids as it felt safe all the time."

"First night electricity went out, too many rules can't bring food from buffett out to the pool but there is food from the grill served out at the pool? Men are not llowed to wear tank tops in the buffett area for dinner? Some of the staff friendly others very rude. Dinner at the Italian restaurant was very good all other food was awful. Adult pool and all of the rest rooms were dirty. Beach WHAT BEACH? Private Island that you can walk to fail to mention that you can't swim in the ocean couldn't find a spot deep enough. Entertainment was good but all the same how long can you watch peolple dance the native dances? I have been to Montego Bay 4 times and have to say the Holiday Inn did NOT meet our expectations to say the least."

Captain Hook show was amazing.
Catamaran tour was great. You should see the Dune's River. It was a great experience. I recommend to everybody who has kids.

"My wife and I along with our three adult sons and five other friends stayed at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort in Montego Bay Jamaica. We had a fantastic time there the food was great the staff were simply wonderfull the resort was clean and the security was very good.We did not want to leave we were having such a great time there.
The only negative thing that we would like to see change is that the beach (water )should be a lot cleaner, free of see weeds and other objects that can harm the swimmers.Case in point , one of my sons had a number of prickle things that went up into his feet and the same day we found a pice of glass in the water at the beach.
The sand was clean each morning before we went on the beach, the water was not.
I must say all ten of us love it there and we are planning our next vacation trip for next year."

The beaches were WONDERFUL, clean, well cared for with chairs to lounge in. Have to be up early and claim a chair or you won't get one. People save them for the day.

"1st: It is a family resort and they will not promise you an adult building (Unit 6&7)
even ahead a time as we did.
2nd: All rooms are 1st come, 1st serve according to them. Friends arriving from
another state on same day, few hours later were put in different building,
right in front of childrens playground. We had no kids!!
3rd: We along with friends were given a new room but not till next day. A
common statement we heard from other guests. 'All full check back'
4th: We had horrible air conditioner problems.(so loud couldnt sleep well) perfect
third day & third room!
Food and drinks were ok! Employees were friendly and courteous all the time. The resort had ok shows in evening but ambience didnt feel Jamaican. American music all day. Snorkeling was really enjoyable. Would visit with grandchild but not as an adult resort. Good hotel for the price! Overall this resort wasn't bad just not a 4 star.(Would have been nice if they allowed food in rooms, and bar service poolside or beachside instead of standing in line for a drink,which was often ) But It is a Holiday Inn."

"I really started to second guess my upcoming stay at holiday inn sunspree after reading these reviews.. However, Kids eat stay and play free so that was a plus.. I didnt see any reason to pay crazy amounts of money for a 3 year old and a 9 year old who wouldnt eat much cause of pickiness anyway. When we arrived we were told we were upgraded because of priority rewards.. great! however it was hours before we were given our room. Understandable because we did arrive early. but even by 3pm it still wasnt ready. If i t was just myself and my husband i wouldnt of minded but we had two children whom we wanted to get situated. about 4 o clock and lots of bugging on our part we were given room 1409 in building one.. we get to our room and realize our ocean view was very limited with a beautiful view of an ugly run down tennis court... nope wasnt having it.. if this was our upgrade i would of hated to see what we would of had.. we called and complained. we told them to move us across hall so that our balcony would at least have a view of the pool and main stage area.. they did with no problem.. rooms were considered an upgrade cause on the 4th floor the ceilings are vaulted thats about it.. nice ceramic tile floors.. Bathrooms clean.. the beds were horrible.. however im coming to find out this is all holiday inns cause prior to our flight out of philly we stayed at an holiday inn express and the beds were just as hard.. however i am use to sleeping on a memory foam mattress.. BIG DIFFERENCE>> rooms were nothing great to brag about.. at night if your facing the stage and pool area in building one or two the music is very very loud.. and goes till about 1 am.. my husband and i didnt mind.. we sat on our balcony with drinks and listened to the entertainment.. however if you wanted to watch tv it was hard to hear over the air conditioner and music.. I have to say that as far as the alcoholic beverages.. you can drink all day and be lucky if you catch a buzz.. just sayin.... i dont drink often and after 6 drinks i should be feeling something.. my husband would drink rum and cokes and tequila sunrises from sun up to sun down and would be fine... we overheard other people talking about how they didnt think that they were putting alcohol in the drinks.. if you started tipping then they would make them stronger... food.... the buffet was decent.. if you were hungry it filled your belly.. however nothing to write home about.. tried the italian restaurant .. had the crab cake tiramisu and chicken.. very limited menu.. all was good.. drinks were better here.. beach was beautiful ocean clean and blue... no problem finding beach chairs.. overall i would probably come back to just have a cheap place to stay to enjoy the beautiful waters of jamaica.. however if you have the money to spend.. i would go to a nicer resort.. this was ok but just not alot to do.. the dj's wouldnt ever just keep one song on.. kept interupting with talking and playing about 10 songs within 5 minutes.. became very annoying.. jerk chicken ..eh just chicken dont see why everyone likes it.. but the main thing is the beach and ocean were wonderful.. i didnt come here to be treated like a princess.. i didnt expect vip service.. nothing mattered to me more then my familys time together and that the ocean was nice and it was.."

"This place is over built for the amount of beach and pool area available. Lounge chairs are elbow to elbow and still there is not enough of them to accommodate the customers. We walked up and down the pool and beach for two days before we found two chairs. Most of lte lounge chairs are worn out. People are reserving the chairs by getting up very early and putting towels on the chairs to reserve them. Mgmt. needs to stop this practice. The patio sliding door was broken. The rollers were completely worn out.Our room Air conditioner quit on the third day. The tennis Pro was using worn out tennis balls. They were flat and wouldn't bounce. They don't sell tennis balls there.No sign up sheet to find another tennis player.The gift shop is a rip off. $12 for a bottle of Vizine.The Buffet dining was a model of efficency. The place is WORN OUT.

"We stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica for 5 nights with our 15 and 17 year old children and my husband's parents. We had ocean front rooms in building 5-they were very basic and the bathroom was very small but it was always kept clean. Our first night we had an issue getting sheets for the pullout and having a roll away delivered. We had booked a room with two double beds but were put into a king size room to be near my inlaws. We had to call twice about the bed/bedding and finally tracked it down ourselves. I'd have to say that that was our only disappointment.
We enjoyed Sorrento and Sea Breeze-did not try Paella because of the bad reviews. Paella is being rebranded, serving Jamaican food and Sea Breeze will be a seafood restaurant beginning on Christmas Day-wish we'd been there to try out the new menus. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet each day and ate dinner there three times. We ate a lot of jerk at the Jerk Hut and had some items at the grill. Try all of the Jamaican foods- the only thing I did not like were the boiled bananas. I loved the fried plantain!
We brought our own insulated cups and were glad that we did.
We kayaked and snorkeled. The water is not deep but was fine for these activities. Pocket a few bagels from breakfast for fish food and snorkel near the pier.
We hired a driver that we found on property to take us to Dunn's River Falls one day and then to RIck's Cafe another day. The first day he was very fair and we paid $170 for 6 passengers, about 6 hours of tour time. The second day he changed his pricing and we bargained with him a little but he ended up getting much more that we had agreed upon. My suggestion would be to use a different driver each trip.
Dunn's River Falls were amazing but the vendors were so forceful that we left feeling mad and a little scared. I recommend avoiding all vendors and shopping in the gift shop at the Holiday Inn!
We had a great time and would also recommend booking a photo session.

"This was my first time to Jamaica. Myself plus 5 other females booked to meet up at this resort. Price was great. Check-in was probablly the worst thing about this trip only because rooms weren't ready, waited few hours, came back to front desk and still wasn't ready, after the 3rd time, we were given a room, ofcourse all 3 rooms were in different buildings. Which really wasn't an issue.
No info was given to us at check in time, we did receive our bracelets and were able to check our luggage and change in bathroom and go to buffet and bars but could not lay ot on the beach. Wasn't even informed of the reservation process for restaurants in the resort. So in turn wasn't able to get booked for my bday dinner, highly upset. I calmed down after the next day that we did get to try 2 of the 3 restaurants out. I was disappointed at both and was so happy that the buffet and grills were open. We did hear the italian was the best one but unfortunately that was the one we didn't get to try out.
Staff was wonderful, resort was beautiful. Was even more disappointed the check in didn't tell us we could rent phone for US calls $5 a day. They didn't inform us about shuttles to go places, guest services informed us after we inquired about it. JLT provided us with anything we asked. I did make a few trips to the business center since I forgot to bring my laptop (which I reccommend!!) unfortunately computer seemed to freeze everytime I was done to my last 4 minutes.
Really, everything else wasn't too bad. One the 3 rooms, one friends said they had bed bugs in one the beds. I searched mines and don't think I seen any."

"I was very disappointed. The food in the buffet was horrible. There was never enough clean tables. A resort should be able to sit all of their guests comfortably. Both sides of the buffet had the exact same things. I was not expecting the best of the best but this was just awful. My daughter never even ate breakfast. However, the chicken jerk hut and the hut where they serve hamburgers were good. Problem was they closed at 6 p.m. The Italian rest. was good. Jamaican one okay and was not able to try out Spanish rest. Could only eat once at each rest. during your stay. You could not have food in your room. Explain that to a 9 year old who is hungry and does not like the buffet and the hamburger and chicken hut is already closed for the evening.
Swimming pool okay if you are a kid. Ocean was nice. They have an adult hot tub which my husband and I like to sit in at night. Come to find out they turn the hot tub off at 5 p.m. because that is when the lifeguards go home. Who wants to sit in a hot tub when the sun is beating down on them during the day.
The kids club was a joke. They had a full activity schedule but when you went to take your child to a scheduled activity it was never taking place. My son went to 2 activities out of an 8 day stay. He did go to the activities on the stage that went on around 2 p.m. There is a playground inside the gate where the kids club is but you never saw staff take the kids outside to play on it. I sat numerous times with my son so he could enjoy the playground. There were alot of daytime adult activities that were scheduled that never happened. However, evening entertainment was good.
The room was nice. The toilet though ran the entire 8 days we were there. Had to have handle fixed because it rusted off. They fixed this in a timely manner but were unable to keep the toilet from running. Very annoying when trying to sleep. Air conditioner turns on and off. So you better fall asleep while air is on. Room had a balcony but there was no privacy. You could see eveyone and everyones balcony. You could actually see into your neighbors room. TV went out more than once. Key cards stopped working. Turned into an hour long ordeal to get that fixed. Housekeeping was great. Staff was very friendly.
They hotel does not like breaking your money down for you so takes lots of 5's and 1's. Went shopping across the street. I know what it is like to shop in Jamaica this is my third time in Jamaica. This place was annoying. Even bargaining with them it was not cheap. The resort gift shop depending on what you want is fairly reasonable.
Last year and the year prior we stayed at the Sunset Resort and Spa in Montego Bay. Same amount of money as this hotel. Sunset had a great buffet and food at the grill until like 10 p.m. Hot tub was hot. Kids club was great. Son always wanted to go. Daytime entertainment was fun. Always something to do. You could have food in your room here.
I read a lot of bad reviews but ignored them and went with an open mind thinking people were expecting to much. I'm telling you go somewhere else.
WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not worth the money."

"WHEN I WOKE UP THE FIRST MORNING WATER WAS ON THE FLOOR FROM RAIN THAT NIGHT, I CALL THE FRONT DESK AND WITHIN 10 MINUTES SOMEONE CAME TO MOVE ME TO ANOTHER ROOM ON THE 3FL HOWEVER THERE WAS ANOTHER BATHROOM FLOOD BEFORE THE BELLBOY LEFT. HE SAID HE WAS SORRY ABOUT IT AND WOULD SEE I GET ANOTHER ROOM. WITHIN 15 MINUTES I WAS PLACED IN ANOTHER ROOM. THE DOOR HANDLE WAS BROKEN BUT WAS FIXED PROMPTLY. I REALLY ENJOY MY STAY THERE. THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND RESPECTFUL...I HOPE TO COME BACK SOON."

"This was our second trip back to this resort. We visited a year ago. The food is subpar, but eatable. This time the facility was actually better then last time. They have done several upgrades. What I was unhappy with was the customer service. The woman at the front desk gave my husband wrong information which cost us money. Then later denied it and didn't allow us to speak to the manager. I called and requested to speak with a manager who was supposed to call the next day but never did, oh yeah the managers voice mail was full (I wonder why?) Also my 16 year old daughter came and was given an adult bracelet. I didn't realize until she told me several days later that there were different bracelets for different ages. Also as a returning guest there were no perks. Which I later found out wasn't the case we should have been given VIP status. There were no apologies from the hotel nor did they fix their mistakes or refund us money that we shouldn't have spent due to their mis-information. I will not return solely on customer service."

"My sisters and I had an awesome time. We celebrated my sister's birthday. The resort was very accommodating. The resort was clean and the service was top notch. Getting enough bathroom towels was the only issue. Other than that we loved what the resort had to offer. With three women traveling alone we felt safe and secured on site. The weather was perfect, the food was delicious and the staff was great. Although there was children on site you hardly ever noticed them. There was so much to do. Four days is all you need to experience a wonderful time. I plan on returning in June with my husband and two children."

The grounds were beautiful and well landscaped, The staff was always friendly and the Bookit Rep was great with helping plan our activities. "We just returned from our first trip to Jamaica! This resort was older, but very well maintained and beautiful. Our 3 young children loved the pools and beach. Spent many hours there! And the buffet was perfect for us so the kids could just sit down and eat immediatly without having to sit and wait. 12 days was a little lengthy, I would recommend a week at maximum. Highly recommended family resort!"

"I just arrived back for Holiday Inn Sunspree all inclusive at Montego Bay and it was good staying there. The room I stayed in was clean, washroom was clean as other places I have stayed, food was good. They really strive to accommodate. There were nightly entertainment which was very good as well. I have no complaints at all. When I read previous reviews I almost did not go there but I am glad I went to see for myself. I would recommend staying there to anyone.

"We just finished our trip and it was wonderful. The pool and beach were very nice. Also, the island just off the beach was neat ( you can walk over to it in water depth of about 21/2 to 3 feet deep ). The breeze was as good as it gets all week long and we had perfect weather. The Italian restaurant was really great. Additionally, they keep the grounds looking nicely groomed and cleaned up better than most resorts. We would return !!"

"The beach was lovely, my kids enjoyed it along with the play ground area. The jerk pork was very good. We went for breakfast two mornings and flies were bothering us. However at dinner we sat more on the inner section of the Poolside bar and we didn't have that problem. The food was not all that. My husband complained about something biting him in the room, which appeared to be mosquitoes. I think there's alot more the hotel can do to make your stay a more enjoyable one."

"Holiday in sure has changed, The staff was upset, The food was not any good. The only good meal I had in five days was breakfast an omlet made by the male chef he was very nice he should have been the cook all the time, and the one night at the Seabreeze resturant that you had to make reservations for. My sister and I had to leave each day walk down to the street to catch a cab to go down town if we wanted to have a good time. We spent most of the time away from the hotel. The last night I was there the lights in the whole place went out, pitch black. I will never stay there again it was a waste of money and took up a lot of our time going back and forth from the hotel to the hip strip. Thanks Holiday Inn for making My Birthday aTrip to Forget."

"Every two years just us girls go out of the country and it had been a dream of mione to go to Jamaica. We had the MOST amazing time. We were all shocked with how clean the hotel was kept considering it was all open air. The hotel is right on the beach - which is a plus. The staff was more than friendly. You can eat any time you want. There is ALWAYS food available. We got the all inclusive deal with including all of our food and booze for free. You just go right up to the bar and tell them what you want and they make it. No tipping required because that's included if you do all inclusive. It is a family orientated resort so there are LOTS of kids around but no worries - there's a section just for adults so no worries. If you want to go to the clubs at night there is a free shuttle service - again if you purchase all inclusive. All inclusive is the way to go and I would recommend this place to anyone! We had a blast!!!!! "

"This was my 1st time traveling to Jamaica and I will definately be coming back. For the price this was a wonderful place to stay,everyone enjoyed themselves.I was planning a cruise for next year, but cancelled. to sum it all up the staff was wonderful, the jerk chicken was great and the entertainment was wonderful.I got to know some of the staff and they were the best.(If you happen to go tell my sister Ann at the jerk shack her brother(marly man) from the states says hello and I miss them. I definitely would recommend this place for family or just for you and the misses."

"We stayed there last week. We had a really good time. It was a great place for the kids, but most of the excursions were around Ocho Rios. And though they had an Adult Only club, it didn't have life (no music or anything). We did not feel obligated to tip anyone. Actually it is posted several places that tips are not expected because it is all-inclusive. They do have a tip jar at the Front desk if you feel so inclined. I read the reviews on the food before we went. They were right. Don't waste your time with the Spanish restaurant. The choices for the main course were very few, and two of the dishes were the exact same except one had shrimp. We left and went down to the Portside to get something much better. And yes, the Portside served GREAT food every night. The Italian Restaurant was supposedly really delicious, however my men brought collared shirts, closed toe shoes, and nice shorts. I couldn't find anywhere on the website that said what the requirements were. Tropical and hot/humid didn't = slacks to me. I was wrong, so we missed out! So take slacks and nice shoes cause they won't let men in with flip flops either. Also just a note: The pool and the Barefoot Bar and Grill is just steps away from Building 2 and serves drinks until 1am. If you have small kids and want some sleep, request to stay farther away. This is the time it would be nice if the Adult Only Bar in the main building offered more of a club atmosphere. People would probably gather there instead of out around the other bar. Make sure you take time to do to the Dunns River Falls excursion! We had a blast! "
