"Barcelo Dominican Beach was a very clean resort, the beach was crystal clear and the excursion we chose was so worth it! I did not like the peddlers that were allowed to come up to you on the beach, I think i was asked if i wanted my hair braided 100 times over 7 days and it gets very annoying! The staff was great. The buffet had a lot to offer, but it was not really my taste. I really enjoy bacon in the mornings and there was only bacon one time :( The restaurants were better than the buffet and our favorite was Wasabi the hibachi restaurant. The Italian restaurant is a little confused, when we ordered something off the menu, we got complete different things and it wasnt worth telling them because noone really understands. It is very hard to find someone that speaks good english but everyone is very friendly! The front desk is a great help.I would rate the food on an overall scale maybe a 5. I am not very picky but i really enjoy seafood and it was very hard to get. I enjoyed this vacation the resort is very clean and everyone is friendly i guess the only downfall is the food."

"being off season restaurant was limited. the front desk staff needs to be a little more customer orientated. The rest of the staff just needs to be happy most of the staff did really seem like they wanted to be there. Other than that we enjoyed our stay off season it was quite and not so crowed."

"Resort is very international with clients, but sparse on Americans. Staff wasn't that friendly or helpful. Our first room was terrible and needed remodeling. We were placed in an upgraded room which was a lot nicer but we had to pay extra for it. There are a lot of locals that walk the beach and are either begging for money or asking you to buy something from them. Hotel was secure and never felt in danger. Pool closed REALLY early at 7pm. Food was moderate at best. Landscape was beautiful and water was pretty with small waves in the ocean."

"A vacation to the Dominican means meeting people from all over the world. We enjoyed getting to know as many people as possible. We found if you smile and show friendlyness you will receive it back. The staff was very friendly especially if we used this method. The resort was beautiful and the beach awesome. If the resort is full be prepared to get up early to save a lounge chair at the beach, there were alot of broken chairs. The food was good but have had better at other resorts. We liked having a grill at the beach. At other resorts we had beach bar runners and this resort does not offer this. We always tried to get close to the beach bar but there are areas that would be far from it as their beach area is huge. We liked that the beach was narrow so we had easy access to the water. We probably would have booked more trips had there been someone there longer than a few limited hours. Also the phones in the room came with no instructions on how to get outside lines and such. Our over all experience was great."

"We enjoyed this resort. This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic and the beaches are the softest white sand we've ever been on. The resort is beautifully maintained with lush green trees and flowers. Yes, it hard to communicate with most of the staff but we were able to get by. The food was excellent! The only complaint I would say is the water pressure in our room was awful! We had a junior suite with a jazcuzzi but were unable to use it because it would have taken 3 das to fill it! Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this resort!"

"i just came back,I had a nice vacation ...good property for the money..but staff friendlenss made up for it..Food was good ...ok ..But good...,rooms was big more than i exoect.The Tv's was old ..could need little upgrading though.Grounds well kept ..pool nicely shaped....I would recommend this property if you looking for a bargin ....I'll go to the deluxe property next time...nice hotel overall"

"I would never visit this resort again, they gave us a room that was full of bugs crawling up the wall. When we asked to be moved we were given a hard time by the front desk. When we left after vacation we were bit up by bed bugs. The hotel was infested with them."

"Well let me just say that you must go see for yourself. Don't let the negative reviews make you second guess this resort. I just returned from there on Sunday march 17th 2013. IT WAS AWESOME! I am 40 and my wife is 30, no kids. I will agree that the staff does not have a lot of English speaking people, but that did not stop us from having a great time. We always got what we wanted even though we didn't speak a word of Spanish. If you have the sheets changed every day you won't have any insect problems. Remember you're in a tropical climate, insects are part of that climate. There was a wide variety of food at 3 buffets and 6 restaurants, IF YOU CAN'T FIND SOMETHING GOOD TO EAT, THEN YOU ARE THE PROBLEM, NOT THE RESORT! My room was clean, I even pulled the bed away from the wall, just to see, and it was spotless. There a show every night at 10 pm. I would defiantly recommend going to SAONA FOR THE DAY, you'll see when you get there. There was kids there from 1 year old and up. There were so few of them that it didn't matter. No issues with screaming kids at dinner or anywhere else for that matter. I will definitely be going back to punta and i will stay at the dom beach again. YOUR VACATION IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT !!!! !!!! !!!!"

"We spent 6 nights @ the Barcelo Dominican Beach. We had an ocean front room that was very clean and a great view. The food was very good @ all the restaurants we chose. The staff was very friendly and MOST spoke English to some degree. The beach was beautiful with ample amount of chairs. I certainly did not find my stay unpleasant in any way. The alcohol drinks very very good and the service was excellent."

"The hotel needs to be updated. The pictures that are shown do not depict the low ceilings, chipped paint, and mildew smell I encountered in first room. There are very few English speaking staff members so brush up on Spanish before you go. I encountered 4 friendly staff. I agree with Texas above as the people(staff) do not seem happy to be there. The buffet had birds coming in to help themselves to the food and no one seemed to mind. One very large bird lives in dinning area as the local pet. The roaches are the wiidth of your in dex finger and the length of your pinkie, thank God I only saw 3!!! The wi-fi IS NOT FREE it cost and even once you pay you may eoncounter difficulties. The resort is HUGE but half of it is abandoned they need to continue and do the same to the rest in my opinion. If you pay 1$ you can catch the bus down the street 5mins. from hotel and shop til you drop or your tired of negotiating. There is also a free shuttle that takes you to a mall and picks you up in 2hrs. The shopping and the pool by building 7 were the most enjoyable. Despite disappointment we were on vacation and did make lemonade with our lemons. If you do decide to go you must eat at the Japonese, Mexican, Italian and check out Glady's, which is about a two min. walk from the front gate."

"Wow...My husband and I went for our 5th anniversary.

We only have minor issues. The TV was too small and the picture was grainy and I wish more staff spoke english.....


We had a ball, wish we could stay............I think we gained weight.....The food was great, lots of varities, the alcohol flow, the only beer we saw was the local beer, however, there was hard liquors, we had enough Margaritas to last for winter.(lol). The staff is great (we communicate, without words for the spanish staffs). The entertainment is night and day (plus there is a club). The pool is nice, we did not like the beach the water was choppy and had seaweed (I am from jamaica, so I am hard to please for beaches). The overall experience was great."

"The resort was very large and well maintanined. The people were very friendly and spoke mostly spanish but communicated well in German, Dutch and French. The resort was all inclusive and offerred food through a general buffet, several specialty restaurants,, a variety of entertainment (shows, disco, casino). Beverages were plentiful--both with or without alcohol. We did the Lobster--on-the-Beach promotion (lighting was a little dark and the wind was blowing significantly) I went to the Spa, which is an extra charge for personal services, and had a masage and jucusi soak. It was peaceful and relaxing-- expertly done. The room was good but not enough towels. The shower door leaked and I had to use a couple of sparse towels to wipe the floor. The floor was tiled and presented a slipping hazard so be aware. The little patio was splendid in the evenings. The beach was beautiful . The hamburgers at the beach were huge and delicious. I did not go on tours outside of the resort but they were available. Overall I had a wonderful time and would recommend this resort."

"While the staff was very friendly, unfourtantly the couple that I went with had a slighlty less positive experince with water leaking from thier celiling, pillows that had a wet mop smell to them, to issues with the A/C. The resort is great in that we were a 5 minute walk from the beach and the food was great. The guest services staff were very accomadating and there are many different activities to chose from ,and most of the staff spoke some degree of english which was nice for those of us who are not fluent. I wish that the rooms would have came with clocks and maybe a stereo so that you could tell the time or listen to the radio versus the TV.

We stayed in the Junior Suites which means that we got gold wrist bands and stayed in the Elite Club and got VIP check-in. This translated into us getting driven to the rooms upon check-in and all of our drinks were included regardless of type. The 24 hour snack bar really wasn't 24 hours and it only offered pizza and juice. There was also no fitness center that was located at this site, but they did offer various sports and even bachata lessons. The buffet was extensive and they rotated the type of cuisnes every night however it would have been nice if they offered more of local foods. The gift shop was convinent and carried pretty much everything from sarongs to souviners and asprin. The resort was good for the amount that we paid to stay for 6 days. Overall it wasn't that negative of an experince for a first time visit to the Dominican Republic."
